Gault Millau 2012: Grand Hotel Wien celebrates four toques
October 19th, 2011
The most important Austrian gourmet guide Gault Millau has awarded two toques each to the Grand Hotel Wien Gourmet Restaurants Unkai and Le Ciel. With these ratings in the 2012 issue of the guide the two restaurants have once again reasserted their positions among the best restaurants in town.
"We are truly excited about this honour that we consider a recognition of our many years of high level performance. I want to extent my warmest congratulations to my two chefs Jacqueline Pfeiffer and Hiroshi Sakai and their teams," states Siegfried Pucher, F&B Director of the Grand Hotel Wien. "But however exciting and flattering this recognition may be, our daily effort does not aim at awards but on the day to day satisfaction of our guests. And for that we will continue to even further improve ourselves next year."
Le Ciel with chef de cuisine Jacqueline Pfeiffer
Le Ciel on the 7th floor of the Grand Hotel Wien is
not only legendary for its breathtaking view, but also for its
impeccable service and magnificent cuisine. It is styled in warm
traditional colors; the china and silver were all specially created
for this celebrated restaurant. Chef de Cuisine Jacqueline
Pfeiffer, awarded with two toques by the definitive gourmet guide
Gault Millau, is famous for her creative yet elegant culinary art.
In the summertime, guests can enjoy the culinary highlights on a
beautiful outside terrace.

Unkai with chef de cuisine Hiroshi Sakai
Unkai, meaning "sea of clouds," hints at the restaurant's
7th-floor location at the Grand Hotel Wien. Head chef
Hiroshi Sakai creates authentic Japanese cuisine in its purest
form. The highly awarded restaurant welcomes its guests in a
contemporary but traditional Japanese interior, original tatami
rooms and teppanyaki tables. The sophisticated culinary offerings
amongst others include a monthly changing traditional Kaiseki menu,
sushi that is widely considered the best of town and a popular
sushi brunch on the weekends.
