Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2011: Grand Hotel Wien voted best hotel in Austria
October 20th, 2011
The readers of the renowned US travel magazine Condé Nast have chosen the Grand Hotel Wien best hotel in Austria. The historical luxury hotel at the famous boulevard Ringstrasse was voted number 1 hotel in Austria and 14th in northern Europe. The Condé Nast traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2011 reflects the combined opinions of 28,876 Condé Nast Traveler readers rating the cities, islands, and hotels they visited in the past year, and the airlines and cruise ships they traveled with. With 89.8 points the Grand Hotel Wien is ranked first among the hotels in Austria, in total six Austrian hotels were chosen for this ranking.
"We are obviously thrilled and extremely proud about this honor", states the Assistant General Manager of the Grand Hotel Wien, Carl-Peter Echtermeijer. "Guests from all over the world have voted us the best hotel in Austria and find us to be among the best ones in Europe. Their choice is our motivation to become even better - working for this fantastic historic hotel and its guests is a great honor and makes us proud every day."
Grand Hotel Wien: 140 years of glory and glamour
By choice of the readers of Condé Nast magazine, the Grand Hotel Wien is the best hotel in Austria. The 5-star-luxury hotel in the heart of Vienna offers its guests 205 rooms and suites, 3 restaurants (awarded with a total of 4 toques by the famous gourmet guide Gault Millau), 2 bars, and 13 meeting facilities, among them a prestigious ballroom. Furthermore, the Grand Hotel Wien looks back on a fascinating history. When the hotel opened its doors in 1870, it instantly became a sensation throughout Europe due to its luxurious and then modern interior. In the course of the many decades that have passed in the interim events like concerts by the king of waltz, Johann Strauss, the tragedy of Mayerling, guests like Richard Wagner, Josephine Baker, or the Japanese Emperor and many other anecdotes and encounters have contributed to transforming the Grand Hotel Wien into the living legend that it is today.
